December 2020 Bulletin

Affinity Homecare Shrewsbury

Newsletter December 2020

Affinity have been busy through the latest lockdown keeping cares up to date with their COVID-19 testing, getting new staff ready to work and updating our PPE procedures. So, you will see boxes coming into your home within the next month that includes all the PPE our carers need, this will help lower the risk of contaminating the PPE before use. Our carers will ensure that the boxes are kept neatly and safely away in your home.

We have been able to ensure our office has remained open during the pandemic and lockdown and we are glad we are able to continue to do so over the Christmas Period and in to 2021. We even adapted our Carers training to ensure we remained Covid-19 safe while doing their first aid and moving and handling which we have received great feedback about.

Watch this space for next year when hopefully we are in a safer position with the arrival of the vaccine we plan to get more involved in charity events to raise money for our chosen cause … we hope carers can get involved any funding raising ideas are welcome!

We had exciting news this month we were nominated for the Care Team Award with The British Care Awards and due to attend the awards via video link on 9 December 2020. It will be great to have a couple of carers attend with our Registered Manager Melissa so we can recognise the hard work off all our staff.

Keep your fingers crossed for us and we will update our Facebook page and Website with the results

Tis the season…

Winter is here, we all need to focus on looking after our own health & wellbeing so here is a nice and easy recipe for making homemade tomato soup. Our carers could make this for you if they have time but is also handy for our carers while on the move as it will store nicely in a travel mug!

·        85g dried red lentils

·         carrots, quartered lengthways then diced

·         3 sticks celery, sliced

·         small leeks, sliced

·         2 tbsp tomato purée

·         1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves

·         large garlic cloves, chopped

·         1 tbsp vegetable bouillon powder

·         1 heaped tsp ground coriander

·         STEP 1

Tip all the ingredients into a large pan. Pour over 1½ litres boiling water, then stir well.

·         STEP 2

Cover and leave to simmer for 30 mins until the vegetables and lentils are tender.

·         STEP 3

Ladle into bowls and eat straightaway, or if you like a really thick texture, blitz a third of the soup with a hand blender or in a food processor.
